Hello to the Society membership, I am Terry Baldwin, new member and delighted to see a thriving interest in this proud and ancient art.
Welcome Terry!
Welcome!
Welcome to the site!
Thank you all for your kind words of welcome.
A little late to the party but Welcome Terry!!
Thank you as well.
Nice to see another member from Northern California! —a bit of a drive from there to the Bay Area, but if interested, a few of us are having lunch in Mountain View on Wednesday 4/23 (Mario’s on Leong Street).
Also, what can you tell us about your arms & how you arrived at this design? Inquiring minds & all that…
Are you a descendant of Samuel Baldwin of Windsor, Mass.?
In answer to David, no, all my people are from Kansas and Iowa, at least back to 1877, when the records run out.
My arms design has two sources, first from my military service in Vietnam, I was in a recon squadron for two tours there. One of our emblems was a flying lion, so that was the first image I had.
As I was beginning my heraldry studies back in ‘75, I added the color to the image. Red and gold, blood and treasure, lost during that war, my group, in the middle of it. I changed the lion to a griffin, because my service was on the ground, supporting the air elements.
I, a little later, found a motto in Fairbairn’s that rang a bell with me. "Je n’oublierai pas" ‘I shall not forget’. I will always remember the men I served with, and it seemed fitting.
As to the lunch, I must sent regrets, I am not fully retired quite yet and duty calls.
Thank you all again for the warm welcome,
Terry
