I found this interesting link about James Madison….

Quote:
A new seal representing the original coat of arms of President James Madison’s family was adopted in 1975. It was designed by Madison College Communication Arts Professor Horace Burr who said the new seal depicted, with slight modifications, the coat of arms from Madison ‘s 14th Century ancestors.
I hope that’s true and that they didn’t just pick it up from a bucketshop.
I dug through some old research and found this.
Heraldry in Canada. Vol.XII, No. 3, September 1978, "Armigerous U.S. Presidents", Strome Galloway, pg. 11. "James Monroe, the fifth president of the U.S. was a proven cadet of Munro of Foulis, Chief of the Clan Munro in northern Scotland." The CoA for Monro of Foulis is:"Or an eagles head rased gules.
Crest: An eagle with wings expanded. Supporters: Eagles with wings expanded.
When I was at the library today, I looked for a James Madison CoA in Bloton’s American Armory and Crozier’s General Armory as well as his Virginia Heraldica. Surprisingly, I found nothing.
