In 15 days I’ll post the three finalist and the rationale and some historical data of each one so we can vote in what arms are the best heraldic achievment.

Wasn’t especially fond of any of these. And Puerto Rico’s goat standing on an egg is just funny.

I have to apologize since not all the renderings have the same artistic quality so it’s unfair for some of them. The egg suppose to be a rock and the goat actually intended to be Saint John the Baptist (I mean the symbol of).

Disclosure: I didn’t draw any of the CoA:) smile

I was just joking - I knew it wasn’t actually an egg.

Agnus Dei [pron. An-yoos Day ]  The [sacrificial] Lamb of God = Jesus Christ.

If ever you attend an older Catholic Mass you may hear this portion sung:

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona nobis pacem.

Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.

Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.

Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world, grant us peace.

I agree. I am totally pro Latin Mass and supporter of keep the tradition of latin as the Church’s language.

From http://www.catholictradition.org/Passion/john-baptist.htm

some info:

"St. John the Baptist has many symbols, the chief being:

The Head, the Lamb, the Shell [for Baptism], the Holly [for the Passion of Christ which he prefigured], the Maltese Cross, the Reed, from which his own cross was made, the Grasshopper and Camel’s Hair.

He is the patron of farriers, Baptism, and those who suffer spasms, as well as that of Quebec, Canada.

Throughout the centuries the great artists who bore witness to the Catholic Faith have all painted this Martyr. Hundreds of Madonnas portray the Infant St. John with Lady and the Christ Child or depict him by himself, with Christ, and or with other Saints. Many of the portraits of this beloved Saint feature the Lamb, representing Christ and show him pointing the way to Christ [through penance]. We have what we hope is a good representation…"

Ok. I’ll post the rationale of the three winners…

Caracas

Bogota

And La Habana

* La Habana is the oldest city of it’s group and in tat way I am breaking the tie.

Thanks to all for your votes

As a general question & observation—is the intent to judge the underlying heraldic design, or the particular rendition (emblazonment)?  If it is the former, a simple "blueprint" clip-art rendidion of each set of arms would help us to focus on the quality of the design itself vs. the artwork.  A really good artist can make a silk purse from a sow’s ear, while a poor artist can accomplish the reverse.

Mike

You are right. That should be the way to go. The problem is that I am a horrible "artist" and the results were actually worst that post such great variety of artistic quality and styles. Sorry.

No problem, just an observation.  Actually it might be interesting to take separate votes as to design & execution.
