I thought I’d post this rather unusual rendering of the arms of a place in which I often have my art displayed, Transylvania.
Shouldn’t that be a bat instead of a bird?
I read that Transylvania (Literally, across the forest) was the first proposed name for the state of Pennsylvania..
Cheers,

I don’t know about Transylvania, but William Penn (the Younger) wanted to name his new colony simply Sylvania, but the King prevailed upon him to add Penn to honor Admiral William Penn, his father.
No bats. Don’t believe in vampires. Werewolves, yes…bats no. (Chalk this up to a three-week choir tour during college in Romania.)
As a matter of interest, the German name for Transylvania is Siebenburgen, which literally means "seven fortresses" or "seven castles" - hence the seven towers in the arms.
