I don’t think so. If you compare it to the other colors, everything is washed out, and I believe orange is extremely rare in Spanish heraldry. Since this is a bordure of Castile and Leon, I’d bet heavily that it’s Gules.
As you say, it might be Gules which have became looking like orange. As fore the use of orange in Spanish heraldry, I have never seen a Spanish arms who contains orange.
Thanks. I wasn’t sure. Gules makes sense per Mr. McMillan’s mention of it.
I also agree with Mr. McMillan on the arms of Rome and on the addition of the chief.

Without the Mussolini addition, the shield looks like some kind of sign for a state-sponsored first-aid kiosk. With it, it looks like a sign for the same sort of establishment, but under the protection of strapping young men in black shirts.
But they’re both pretty awful.

And you think that message makes it better?

I’m just playin’, man.
Well, it’s a matter of personal taste and opinion. There is no rule that says "This design is nice", "This design is ugly"....
Heck, I think the Confederate battle flag is a very nice design, as is the swastika, but that is just the design, not the meaning behind it…....(though some may take offense at comparing the CSA battle flag to the Nazi flag, I just meant them as examples of controversial symbols, not that the former is a symbol of evil or anything, as I know there are many southerners on this site :D)
Cheers.

I suppose it could ... unless one had a solid, or perhaps better, understanding of history and cultural history at that.

It’s precisely one’s knowledge of "history and cultural history at that" that would make the design seem like such a missed opportunity.

Arms of Bissau (Guinea-Bissau formerly Portuguese Guinea) on the standard of the City. I’am not sure if these arms have been used since the Portuguese left in 1975.

Freetown (Sierra Leone).

Matter of perspective I guess. I’d say it was a teaching moment if someone didn’t know it rather than a lost opportunity. So be it.
Both are nice. I rather like Freetown myself.
Yes the Freetown arms are quite good, continuing the Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast, but the Ivorian government prefer the French name to be used in all lanugages). The arms of the de facto Capital Abidjan (de jure Yamoussoukro is the Republic’s Capital, I have no information regarding arms for Yamoussoukro).

Not shown here is the Motto: "Mari semper altior".
For Bamako (Mali) I have only a Blason: Azure in pale three crocodiles Argent facing sinister.
Lomé (Togo) also only a blason: Per pale Azure and Vert a pile Or charged with ? (I was unsure what the figures on the pile was) Sable, on a chief Azure a Palmtree Or issuant. On top of the Shield two Birds.
Marcus I must say that I am just amazed at how much resources you have…or maybe your research abilities. Either way I am amazed at all the various arms you provide us here and at HSS. Thank you.

Well thanks. I have a fairly large collection of arms (books, photocopies, blasons ect) but as a Librarian I’am also a skilled researcher, so it’s a combination of both.
I haven’t found any arms for Ougadougu (Burkina Faso), Niamey (Niger), Porto Novo (Benin), Yaounde (Cameroon), Bangui (Central African Republic), Khartoum (Sudan), Asmara (Eritrea), Djibouti (Djibouti), Mogadishu (Somalia), Kigali (Rwanda), Bujumbura (Burundi), Dodoma (Tanzania), Lilongwe (Malawi) or Moroni (Comores Islands). Continuing with those arms I have found:

The arms of the Lagos State (Nigeria) on it’s flag 1967-1970. Since 1970 only the Nigerian flag and arms is to be used by the States.

Flag with the arms of the Lagos Federal District used 1960-1967.
Both pictures from Jens Pattke on Flags of the World.
