A few years ago I conceived of the idea (actually inspired by a friend’s bookplate) to do a kind of CV but illustrated with heraldry. It would include not only my arms but variations on that (if any), places I had served as a priest, schools attended, organizations joined, etc. Lacking the artistic ability myself I commissioned Matthew Alderman http://matthewalderman.com to do the artwork based on a design by me. The result was delivered today. I think it’s very very good. (if I do say so myself)

Is there a way we could see a larger version. I can’t make out much detail on it in this size.
It’s very cool! I love this idea.
Wow! Fantastic work, Fr. Guy! I love the concept and the execution. When you get a few minutes, would you mind listing out the several arms and orders depicted?
Fantastic idea, and wonderfully executed. What a great story it shares with everyone. Tell us more about the different arms.
A lovely piece of art and an excellent display of heraldry.
Would you mind walking us through this very dense piece? I recognized some of the larger emblems, but I know I’m missing a lot in the smaller ones.
And AHS gets a shout out in the design! Cool
Great idea! I’m going to consider something similar for myself.
Wow, that is spectacular. I love the concept and the execution. And I would also like to echo the call for a larger version.

I think there is a larger version on Fr Guy’s blog: http://exarandorum.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/image5.jpg
I think his blog post also talks about some of the other arms in the painting: http://exarandorum.wordpress.com/2013/05/08/an-heraldic-cv/
For some reason I can’t see the large version on the blog anymore, but looking at the small version and trying to recall the bigger one when I could see it earlier:
Large shields:
Upper center - Fr. Guy’s personal arms
Immediately below - Holy See
Lower left - Personal arms impaled by those of the Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament (of which he is rector)
Lower right - Personal arms impaled by those of something he told us about but I forgot
Smaller shields:
Upper left: Diocese of Metuchen
Upper right: Diocese of Rockville Centre, Long Island
Down the left margin are
1. Knights of Columbus
2. AHS
3. Augustan Society
4. [something having to do with Seton Hall University, I guess]
5. New York Genealogical & Biographical Society
6. Royal Heraldry Society of Canada
7. Order of Malta (I think)
Down the right margin:
1. Order of SS Maurice & Lazarus
2. American College of Heraldry
3. College of Arms of the Royal House of Aragon
4. [don’t remember]
5. The Heraldry Society
6. [don’t know]
7. Order of St. Agatha
Along the bottom:
1. Don’t know
2. Must be something with the Diocese of Metuchen—maybe the seminary?
3. St. John’s University
How am I doing?
Right hand side - Number 4
I came across this recently while examining the arms of the Portuguese civil parish of Vila de Frades.
In the parish’s arms it is a stylized cross encircled by and emerging from the base of an annulet. It was described as an the ‘ancient emblem of the Benedictines’.
The only reference I can find on Wikipedia is to the design in Father Guy’s heraldic CV which occurs as one side of two examples of a Saint Benedict medal.

3. St. John’s University

You got most of them correct.
