Sorting out another of my many stacks of paper, I ran across these two emblazonments of the arms of General Sir Gordon H. A. MacMillan of MacMillan and Knap, KCB, KCVO, etc., that I drew 25 or 30 years ago with pencils and markers. Not very elegant media, but thought I’d share anyway.
I’m not sure why I used pierced mullets; probably didn’t know any better back then.

But you’ve done a good job with the layout with most everything in proportion and the space around and between everything well balanced. I’d rather see this than clip art any day of the week.
I also know now that these would have looked better on something other than standard Xerox copying paper!
Looks far better than my current attempts.

I agree! And waaaaay better than anything I could come up with. I like ‘em.

There’s something to be said for being able to identify a piece even when it’s upside-down…
Nick
Joe,
Thanks for sharing. Have you considered an updated version?

No, I think Romilly Squire seems to have things well in hand.
Your’re a good artist Joe. I enjoyed viewing these images. Thanks.
Quite nice!
They do IMO illustrate the usefulness of the current practice of showing the knight’s helmet other than affrontee to better accommodate a crest which for a non-knight would call for the helm to face dexter. (Not a criticism of your artwork, rather of the old and unlamented rule that a knight’s helmet should face front in all cases.)
