Howdy all,
I am thinking of ordering some personal stationary with my arms. Does anyone have any recommendations on particular companies. Any other ideas or recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks.
David Shorey
David,
I had my note paper (6"x8"), letter stationery (8"x11"), and envelopes made by Waddies in Edinburgh about 25 years ago (cheap then); Conqueror brand paper—a high-quality, hi-rag content paper—was used. I don’t know the going rate today. Lyon Court artist Patricia Bertram did the line drawings. The shield is at the top of the stationery and the crest is on the flap of the envelopes.

My name is actually centered below the motto ribband. The artwork is thermographic (heat causes ink to rise) instead of engraved (more expensive).
Regards,
Thanks for the info!

Laurent Granier has some very fine examples of letterheads and embossed stationery.
His examples give good ideas on how to use your arms for letters and calling cards, etc.
His galerie link also contains very fine heraldry. Since your arms contain a dolphin you might be interested in a French interpretation.
Regards.

I absolutely love Conquerer papers. My introduction to Conquerer, many years ago, was an A4 size letter and matching square flapped envelope, large enough for a crest or escutcheon, from the Deputy Chief Herald of Ireland that used Conquerer papers cut and processed by Wiggins Teape, an Irish company. Through numerous telephone calls, I located the firm which still produced the 100 gram laid oyster colour paper but learned that they had a minimum order amount of 1000 sheets and 1000 envelopes that would have been very reasonable for the product except for the hefty postage fee to the US that came with it. There is a US distributor of Conquerer paper in Miami US which sells US paper sizes called Aurthur’s Paper.
Now I use Crane paper in various size for my personal writing paper, though I have used a very nice laid paper called Linen Finish and a German paper by Rossler. One of the better outlets for specialised or high quality writing paper here in the US is Kate’s Paperie at 8 West 13th Street, NYC.
Michael,
What type of graphic did you supply them? Size? Type? Did you use black and white or color? (I’m at work and cannot access your image) I’m considering using just my crest in color centered at the top without name or address, and embossing my address on the envelopes. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks to any who offer their opinions!
Interestingly, some artwork that I commissioned from Neil Bromley http://www.calligraphyandheraldry.com for exactly this purpose arrived (the digital version) this evening. It is a simple line drawing of shield and crest that can be used for letterheads and for engraving &c.
I’m rather pleased with it.

Like Guy, the shield will probably go on the paper and the crest may go on the envelopes. Piccolo Press (one of the few engravers left) is nearby so I might find out just how much getting engraved writing paper would cost and once the palpitations have died down…. who knows.
I agree with the general comments about Conqueror paper.

Just amazing! Congratulations on this rendering, James. It’ll look mighty fine on stationery.
Cheers,
Thanks, James, that is rather handsome!
