I am looking at a vellum covered book with a gold-leaf impressed stamp on the front. This is in the form of an oval cartouche with typical rococo flourishes around it and within the oval a coat of arms, viz:
On the breast of a double-headed eagle, a shield quarterly, 1&4 a tower (single tower), 2 a lion rampant, 3 parted per pale dexter a plain field, sinister a bend sinister.
Above the eagle is a coronet/crown, which seems to have a central thistle with wedges either side and then possibly another thistle at each side, sideways on. The top of the coronet is arched to mirror the top of the oval.
With many thanks for your help.
