Here is a link to Enya’s version of Silent Night (Oíche Chiúin). It is in Irish and it is her video for this song.

And this one has the lyrics in both Irish and English so you can see what she is singing.

I just wanted to wish everyone a silent night during this Christmastide. For me, a good Irish-Catholic boy, celebrating Christmas is about the 12 days of Christmas and not simply December 25. My family has a tradition of giving one small gift on each day with a big gift party to start it off on December 25 (Christmas Day) and again to close it on January 6 (Epiphany - Little Christmas).

So, the best way this Irish boy could say Merry Christmas again to everyone and after the actual day and during Christmastide was to do so in Irish. And since I do not ‘keep the Irish’ as well as Enya and since I can’t sing a lick and since she is much softer on the eyes than I am, I figure I should treat y’all to her version of this song.

I hope your Christmastide is merry, safe, healthy and that you are blessed not to spend it alone and if you are that you take some measure of comfort in knowing that this post and my thoughts and prayers are with you even if I do not know you by name.

Nollaig shona dhuit agus bliain nua gan small – Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year (roughly translated).
