We are now accepting registrations at http://ahs.memberlodge.com/event-1722140 for the AHS annual meeting on September 26-27.  Except for the business meeting, the event is open to anyone.

The $110 registration fee is to defray the costs of:

- Transportation to all events

- Admission to Mt Vernon

- Dinner (including wine) on Saturday, Sept 27.

Hotel information is available to AHS members in the members section of the forum.  I will open up these rooms to non-members at the beginning of next week.

Dinner on Saturday night will be at the historic Gadsby’s Tavern in Old Town Alexandria. The main course options will be prime rib, chicken Fontina, herb-crusted grilled salmon, and a pasta dish. Orders will be taken at the table; you don’t need to choose in advance.

The program as it now stands is at the attachment.

Now two months away from the annual meeting, we are opening up the hotel rooms at the meeting site to interested non-members.

As previously announced, the annual meeting will take place on September 26-27 at the Residence Inn Alexandria Old Town/Duke Street, located at 1456 Duke Street, Alexandria, VA 22314-3403. The phone number is (703) 548-5474.

Based on initial expressions of interest, we have blocked five rooms for Thursday night, September 25, and 10 rooms each night for September 26 and 27. The rooms are "studio suites," each with one queen size bed and a pull-out sofa bed. The room rate is $129/night (plus 14.5% tax, bringing the total to about $150), marked down from the regular price of $149 plus tax). Breakfast buffet is included. For those driving to the area, on-site parking is available at $22 daily.

To reserve a room, please call Marriott Reservations at (800) 331-3131 or (703) 548-5474 on or before Friday, August 29, 2014, and identify yourself as part of the American Heraldry Society group staying at the Residence Inn Alexandria Old Town/Duke Street, located at 1456 Duke Street, Alexandria, VA 22314-3403. All reservations must be guaranteed with a major credit card. The hotel will not hold any reservations unless secured by credit card.

After August 29, the hotel will release any unbooked rooms. You may still be able to get one (at the group rate), but it will be at the discretion of the Residence Inn and subject to availability.

I hope everyone has a great time, and I’m sorry I won’t be making the trek across the country. It sounds like a truly wonderful program has been put together.

I expect to be stein-deep into an Oktoberfest celebration of our local German-American Society at that time, but I’ll be thinking of you all…. Prost!

Hi all,

Thanks to the Society for inviting me to speak at this event.  Even though I was unfortunately not able to attend in person, I hope that my pre-recorded video presentation was interesting and my follow-up Q&A on the telephone was entertaining!

Fr Guy you are "our man in (or near) New Amsterdam"...you should investigate the 500+ cartas ejecutorias de hidalguía held by the Hispanic Society of America museum and library in NYC that I mentioned in my talk: http://www.hispanicsociety.org/

I would like to thank Joe for arranging the inaugural "in person" annual meeting.  It was an enjoyable couple of days and it is always good to meet other heraldry enthusiasts face to face.  Stellar event, Joe!

I really enjoyed the weekend. Thanks to Joe and all who made it such a fantastic experience. I especially enjoyed the U.S. Army Institute of Heraldry and the Folger exhibit on heraldry in the time of Shakespeare.

I’m glad those who attended enjoyed it.  If I could ask a favor:  would those who took pictures of the various events send me some of the best ones to illustrate reports I plan to write and send to the newsletters of the Heraldry Society (England) and Heraldry Society of Canada?  We should also find a way to put them on the AHS website, if the IT Crowd can advise on that.

Joe,

I’m on further travel, but will get to it next week if that’s OK.

Joe, I have to add my thanks.  You’ve set a high bar for future meetings!

It was a great weekend—fun, informative, super presentations, and good company.

Thank you again.

Joe, I have some rather nice photos of the Folger exhibit. Happy to share.
