What do you guys think of this design I made. I have armorial gold and it seems too clipartish…its very difficult to create things with the software but I hope I’m starting to do ok. How would one describe this, what would the knot be called?
I have no idea what to call it Justin. Sorry.
No offence, but three floating roses?

Perhaps he’s a juggler?
(Sorry, sorry, couldn’t resist….)
Actually, initially I wanted the roses to be connected to stems and leaves, etc, but the "clipart" doesn’t include anything that looks heraldic, it looks to realistic. So I couldn’t think of anything else…

One of the three charges looks like Apple’s Command key, which is also known as Saint John’s Arms, or the Saint Hannes cross.

The white circle in the middle is a ring (if that’s a heraldic term), I don’t know how to describe the yellow thing.

Dang it, it turns out the heraldic term is Bowen Knot, not Saint Hannes Cross.

The particular device shown on Justin’s lovely emblazonment is referred to by Boutell as a “Lacy Knot”, as can be seen on page 135 here. It is depicted as such:

It is a combination of two Bowen, Tristram, or True Lover’s Knots (all terms interchangeable) with or without an annulet in the center. This would be another ideal candidate for the “as depicted in the margin” phraseology.
As far as the “floating roses” in the crest, I think that (as Justin has already pointed out) stemming them Vert would be an easy solution.
Overall, I really like the design.
Take care,

Although these 3 roses remind me very much of the Roosevelt arms, given Joseph’s excellent article:

I like the design of the arms. And if there’s a concise way of describing the knots, it seems like a good design! 8)

It’s worth pointing out that the combined red and white roses are rather specifically an English royal badge (the Tudor rose), and, even uncrowned, it seems to me a bad idea to use them in an assumed coat of arms. No problem with roses, just this particular rose.
(Although, if they’re simply intended to indicate English ancestry, I’d try to think of something more personal and less cliched.)
I personally hate the roses but I couldn’t do the stems. The arms are not for me at any rate. The only thing that I really like about the arms is that the partition line mimics the vallary crown on the crest.
Justin-
You may also want to look at these web sites that have free clip art, especially if you are going for something and the Armorial Gold Clip art doesn’t suit your needs…
