Members in the northeast may be interested to know that on September 24 in New York I’ll be giving a talk on arms of the presidents of the United States, based on the series on our website, as part of the heraldic lecture series sponsored by the College of Arms Foundation and the Committee on Heraldry of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society.
It’s Monday, September 24, at 6 p.m., at 36 West 44th Street – Seventh Floor, New York, NY 10036. The lecture is free and open to the public, but the organizers ask that anyone planning to attend RSVP to John Shannon, president of the COAF, at john.shannon@coaf.us. Hope to meet some of you there and perhaps for a drink before or after.
The event is pretty interesting for the non-members as well, but not always attendable… :(
very tempting… it’s only 3 hr from my house, and my cuñada lives in Manhattan, too…
Is there a possibility of a podcast/audio recording for the lectures? I’d love to listen in that way.

Joe does have good taste in beer, too.
I wish I could attend. Stuff like this needs to happen on the west coast more often.

Out of my control, I’m afraid. You’d miss the important part, anyway, which is the pictures.
There was a mention of good beer, what are the chances of getting some of that sent to the group?

Not very good.
If i can ask, what style of beer is this?
Weihenstephan makes a range of beers. My own preference is the basic Bavarian lager (helles, marketed as "Original Premium"), except during the time of year when their Maerzen ("Festbier") is available. But they also produce everything from a double-bock ("Korbinian") to a filtered wheat bear ("Kristall Weissbier"). See http://www.weihenstephaner.de/.
Lots of heraldry on the labels, including, on all of them, the old version of the arms of Bavaria, to which it is entitled as the Bavarian state brewery and brewers’ college.
I was looking for an appropriate thread to post the link to the website of The Metropolitan Museum of Art displaying Rhineland stained -glass armorial roundels - when I found this invitation to New York lecture and ....Bavarian beer Unfortunately ,beautiful examples of 15th century German artwork in collection of the museum are wrongly blazoned , or rather heraldic descriptions are all muddled. It would be to the advantage of this great New York art institution to correct ‘Marking’ info on the site , but so far I couldn’t figure out how to address the issue ...

The talk that Joe gave tonight was EXCELLENT. It was very thorough, well-researched and beautifully illustrated. There was a gathering of about 30 people, one of the largest in recent months for an event of this type, and many new faces as well. I think the talk was very well received. I had the privilege of introducing Joe this evening. I really can’t say enough about it. All this online interaction is great but there is nothing quite like getting together for an actual (as opposed to a virtual) event.

Uggh! For example:

Quote:
Marking: Arms: per bend in gules a fleur-de-lys argent in a bend sinister; argent a bend gules
Sorry for jumping down the "rabbit hole."

Oh, and I forgot to mention that Joe was able to get in a few good comments about the AHS so, hopefully, we’ll see some new members from this.
Glad to hear it was a successful event!
