And the second, third, fifth, twentieth… OK, so I am exaggerating…. :p

Although it took me 3-1/2 years to come to a final design, I really only went through three or four major revisions. And you guys never saw the first one - if you can imagine!
Per chevron abased, Azure and Argent, in chief a plate.
Blue for the BVM, the suggestion of the Host and the covered chalice. Simple, two colours. Has all the referents he wanted, yet not "gummed up" with "Gummy Bears Heraldry".

Nice and simple.
I was gong to suggest “per chevron abased Azure and Argent, in chief a bezant en soleil charged with a plate”.

I think this is better. There’s such a thing as being too minimalist.
Ditto Joe. Steven’s proposal seems like a very reasonable compromise betweeen the original design and Doug’s elegantly simple bare bones suggestion—still very simple, yet more likely to be seen by the priest, his congregation & peers as religiously symbolic of the Mass; and unlike the original designs, the circular emblem (whatever it’s called) is large enough to be easily seen and recognized, even in relatively small scale e.g. a discrete letterhead.
A winner, if the prospective bearer has the eye to see it. A refrigerator test of the three main options would seem to be in order, to give him sufficient time to absorb & appreciate it. And if he doesn’t come to like it, we have a couple of excellent options to present to the next clerical seeker.

if i am not mistaken this would look like rays coming from the roundel correct?

per chevron abased Azure and Argent, in chief a bezant en soleil charged with a plate.
I cant help but feel something is missing, any thoughts?
Really nice! Other than the sink from the parish kitchen, nothing missing that needs to be there.
I assume, without knowing [hey, what do I know?], that the particular form & colors of the galero are appropriate.
Both the design, and your rendition, are quite solid work. It’s elegantly simple, religiously significant, and should work well in small scale or at a distance. If at some point in the future he’s in a position to impale with the arms of a parish or diocese, this simplicity and clarity should contribute to, rather than overpower or detract from, the artistic merit of the combined design.
If the good Father still pines for the parish plumbing, you can present the arms in bookplate form with the extraneous images in the corners or around the edges of the bookplate without encroaching on the simplicity of the shield.
Personally, I like your latest design.
However, I do understand what you are thinking.
It is the argent base that ‘may’ be the problem. It does seem bare without another charge.
If you do feel that it needs something else try a blue crescent or a blue mullet - both symbols that can refer to the Virgin Mary.
Regards,
Iain Boyd
I like it, for the same reasons as have been already stated.
As far as the blazon is concerned, I do not think that you need to call the per chevron "abased", it looks fairly standard to me.
If I’m not mistaken, the galero is for a Anglican Canon, right?
"Christo et Ecclesiae" is Latin for "for Christ and Church".

i am considering: per cheveron azure and argent, in chief a bezant en soleil charged with a plate, in base a cross of canterbury azure.

I think you should fight the urge to add to the design. This is really a superb shield!

correct and correct
the final design ended up being:
per chevron azure and argent, in chief a cross of Canterbury or charged with a plate, in base a fleur-de-lis azure
