vos filii canes…?
I think the fire-breathing is overkill and fights for visual interest with the sword. Why not just give it a dragon’s tongue in addition to the other attributes: a demi talbot with the wings, tail and tongue of a dragon Gules brandishing a Mamaluke sword Argent hilted Or.
(I suppose it’s the dog that makes me want to call it a Marmaduke sword.)

I agree; I found the flames distracting as well.

Well, if Kathy can give her mythical beast a name, why not? Or a marmadrake, since it’s part dragon.

What are your thoughts on the sword? Is it a better design without it? Does the sword add balance?
I think the sword offers a nice visual balance with the wings to sinister, though this particular devil-dog might consider doing some curls with his left arm, too.

Maybe the legend is better than the truth? According to Daniel Daly, he said "men." But it was said in combat, so who knows.

He was one tough customer! Two Medals of Honor [15 years apart], Navy Cross , Distinguished Service Cross….

The first thing I thought was ..... "dog breath."
I like the crest, minus the flames. And, I like the idea of substituting a Mameluke sword vice the heraldic seax.

Are we implying dragons are necessarily reminiscent of devils? Scandalous! It’s a lie!
A demi-dog with the wings, tail and tongue of the devil…
And I agree with the majority on the flames…
Thanks to Harold Cannon for this emblazonment:

Does this not look like a face, where the heart is a mouth and the flowers are eyes? Very "smiley" arms really.
Plus you have five different tinctures, three different types of charges plus an ordinary. Overly complex arms IMO. I feel it’s more important to be honest than flattering if I am to serve here.
I admit I haven’t been following the thread. However, I agree with Jeffrey, too much to be effective IMHO.
I completely disagree with the assertion that the arms are too complex.

Me too. I like the design very much.
Very nice, if the family likes them.
