Ditto what Micheal said, but I think the bear’s eyes should be blue.

Really?  Because I was thinking the bear had green eyes.  But blue could work well.  Then again, maybe red.  It could give it a more ferocious look.

Actually, no, I really do agree with what Michael said as well.  I think it’s time for me to take a step back and see what I’ve got because I feel like I’m constantly changes things in my head and not really seeing what I already have.  I have two very different designs that I love for different reasons.  So I just need to see what stands out to me more.  So far this process has been a lot of fun so I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next.

Had a little time on my hands, and decided to try incorporating more of your original design elements.  The chevron to represent the mountains of California, the two stars for your two degrees, and the oak leaf’s and acorn for a play on your surname.

Whipped up this bear quickly.  Kind of rough, but it gets the idea across.

Josh, these are great.  I do like the new designs as well.  It’s going up on the refrigerator.

I definitely love the demi-bear.  I think it looks great on top of all of the designs.  That is definitely going to be a keeper.

I’m glad you like it.  I figured we could get the idea of how it would look overall on the crest, and worry about him holding something later.

Nice designs all—I prefer the chevrons to the pale, but to each his own,  (Though with same qualifier, I like the bear & oak sprigs even better—somewhere out there, there may be someone hoping you’ll go for the chevron or pale & put the bear versions up for grabs!  smile  )

I know what you mean.  I love them both as well and am having a really difficult time deciding.  I’m going to be sad giving one of them up.  But the fridge test will help me out (hopefully) so we’ll see what I end up going with.

Honestly if I were you, I’d have a difficult time picking as well.  I do have a thing for Chevrons though haha

Just remember during your fridge test, they are not the only choices - something may pop into your head which causes the whole thing to be started over.  Make sure you give it some time, though.

What would it look like with a per chevron with the pale instead of the per fess with the pale. Placing the stars in the upper corners and keeping the oak sprigs still within pale.

Reminds me of one of my favorite wedding songs—"Did you ever have to make up your mind…"

To paraphrase Obie Wan Kenobe, "Trust the Fridge, Luke!"

For this sort of decision, "the Force" is your subconscious mind helping the conscious sort and weigh without the frenzy of the moment—that’s really all the fridge test is.

Sounds like Zen and the art of heraldic design.

It rather does, doesn’t it? —but then I consider myself to be Zen Presbyterian, so there is a common thread.

Maybe something like a passing wind?

(Not sure if that’s Zen or just rude)

I’m thinking "per chevron vert and argent in chief two mullets in base an acorn slipped and leafed, all counterchanged"  (Blazon is probably incorrect, but you get the idea):
